In 2019, Alex Mendham & His Orchestra made its first appearance in California, at the famed Cicada Club and immediately fell in love with the atmosphere there and enthusiasm of the guests that night. Little did they know that several months later the pandemic would hit and live performing would grind to a halt. This video is a message of hope for the future.
In the 1930s, Anson Weeks & His Orchestra played nightly in San Francisco at the Mark Hopkins Hotel on top of Nob Hill overlooking the gorgeous panoramas of the bay below.
Let's Fly Away is a relatively obscure composition by Cole Porter and recorded by the Week' band in 1932 - The lyrics are pure nostalgic escapism at it's best, and we all feel that need to get away from the difficult times we are all facing. Not only is this video a tribute to the Weeks' band but also a musical greeting to our friends and colleagues in America. You're in our thoughts and we hope to see you again soon
We hope you enjoy our video - with aerial views of San Francisco and the Alex Mendham recreation of the Anson Weeks sound. To order a copy of the whole album please visit our official store
